Now that the Easter holiday has come to a close, kids are back in school, relatives are back on the road, and your pastels are finally back in the closet, ready to pop out at next Easter.  But hold on, pastels can do much more this season!  So before you pack up those baby blues, pretty pinks and grassy greens, let’s explore the versatility of these marvelous hues.

The No-Brainer Set: The pastel sweater set has chic written all over it.  Dress it up with pearls for a sweet vintage look. Or go casual and modern and pair the set with skinny jeans, flats and funky accessories.  Personally, I like to take the cardigan solo, buttoned up over slim cropped pants with flats.  And for a more casual look, I will throw it on over a neutral crewneck tee and jeans.

Denim: As I have mentioned before (“Spring’s Must-Haves”), pastels are going to be a major trend in denim for spring.  Do not just confine yourself to denim, however.  If a periwinkle pair of canvas shorts catches your eye, go for it.  In a season filled with bright and bold colorful pant selections, why limit yourself?

Accessorize: Punch up an outfit with a pop of pastel.  An oversize clutch in canary yellow will brighten your day and keep you on trend.  Peachy pumps will start your outfit off on the right foot, whether you go casual with jeans, or dress it up in a pencil skirt.  Mix your pastel accessories with metallic detailing for some chic bonus points.  Take cues from Marc Jacob’s accessories for Louis Vuitton Spring 2012.

Pale Beauties: The beauty market has followed designers in their thirst for pastels.  So feel free to brush on a soft pink lip or swipe some robin’s egg blue over your eyes to freshen up your look.  The Easter Bunny was kind enough to bring me a bottle of Essie’s nail lacquer in “Navigate Her,” a pretty pale green, to keep my nails on-trend.  Today I paired my newly painted nails with my dark wash skinny jeans (cuffed), my floral t-strap peep-toe flats, a white tee and gray cardigan.  I must admit, my shoes received more attention than my nails, but that is to be expected.  The pastel is not typically a bold, look-at-me statement; it is a soft, feminine one.  So use pastels to your advantage, let them compliment your other statement pieces.

The pastel craze should endure well into fall, as they mix in amongst bolder, darker garments, so enjoy these softer, muted pieces and feel free to stock up!

Much love and good shoes,
