Itching to add a punch of spring to my wardrobe, I ventured out yesterday in search of colorful fare.  I landed in Gap, drawn in by their array of bright bottoms, a definite must for spring.

Initially drawn to a pair of kelly green Broken-In Straight Khakis, and then to its cobalt blue cousin, I was off to a good start.  My thoughts then turned to the radiant reds that appeared on the runways for spring and fall, and then I spotted them: bright red Slim Cropped pants.  I already own a pair in black and they are divine—with flats—in an Audrey Hepburn sort of way.

With my finds slung over my arm, I headed for the fitting room.  Never have I been a khaki person, I will admit it.  Maybe it was how quickly the drab color could suck the life out of whatever I was wearing.  Or maybe it was the paper bag-like forms that khakis often took—none of which were typically flattering for my rear.  But I was immediately taken with the Broken-In Straight Khakis.  They fit like my favorite pair of jeans but were actually more—dare I say it?—comfortable.  And the bright colors and modern silhouette brought these khakis out of the fluorescent-lit cubicles and into my wardrobe.  I decided on the green, but I will probably be back very soon for the blue.

With shopping highs, came the lows.  The red Slim Cropped did not live up to their black predecessors.  The fit was just a little off on these.  The fabric blend is slightly different, so they did not stretch as nicely around my hips and thighs as the other ones did.  And of course, bright red is not a very forgiving color, so everything shows.  Needless to say, I abandoned my quest for red, at least temporarily.

Green khakis in hand, I headed for the scarves.  Since I was down a pair of pants, I figured there was now room in my budget to accessorize.  A few caught my eye immediately.  I enjoyed the paisley prints with the mix of bold and soft hues.  I figured they would offset my budding khaki collection perfectly.  Ultimately, I settled on two totally different prints, one being a little Pucci-esque.  I loved their vintage appeal and how they conjured up thoughts of strolling along a beach in large floppy sun hats.

Well, I will say it has been a very successful trip.  I may even go back for seconds.  You are more than welcome to join me.

Much love and good shoes,
